Fylde Coast leadership programme shortlisted for regional award

A programme of work designed to help health and social care professionals work better together across the Fylde Coast has received regional recognition.

The ‘Healthier Fylde Coast 100 Systems Leaders Programme’ has been shortlisted for a Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) North West award.

The programme, which saw 100 leaders from twelve organisations coming together between September 2018 and June 2019, has been shortlisted in the ‘we improve the culture’ category.

It was carried out to support the development of the Fylde Coast Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) – which brings local NHS and council organisations together. The partnership is known as ‘Healthier Fylde Coast’ and will work together to a common vision: ‘improving health and care together’.

Sharon Adams, head of organisational development for the Fylde Coast Integrated Care Partnership, said: “To be recognised in this way is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our organisational development team to produce such an innovative programme. In order to improve the health and wellbeing of the people living on the Fylde Coast and the quality of care they receive, local NHS and council leaders agreed we should be working better together.

“Having the ‘right’ kind of leadership during times of change is really important. We need our leaders to be able to motivate and influence staff to work in different ways and build better relationships. This programme was designed to look at ways of supporting health and social care leaders on the Fylde Coast to effectively do this.”

During the programme delegates looked at leadership behaviours, had access to a mentor and were invited to participate in a community base project to put their leadership skills into action.

Since it launched, the Fylde Coast partnership has also received national recognition and has ‘buddied’ with Surrey Heartlands Sustainability and Transformation Partnership, to help them develop and implement their version of the programme. It has also supported Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System and Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership.

The HPMA North West awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 28 November in Manchester.
