More than 150,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses given on Fylde Coast

More than 150,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to people living in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

The latest figures show that 148,663 people registered with a Fylde Coast GP have received the first dose of a vaccine, with 4,274 people also receiving their second dose.

100,399 of the vaccines have been given to people aged 60 and over, with 93 per cent of people in this age bracket on the Fylde Coast now having received at least a first dose.

Dr Neil Hartley-Smith, a Blackpool GP and clinical director for NHS Blackpool and NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) said: “We are delighted that we were able to get several vaccination centres up and running quickly which has enabled us to offer more than 150,000 doses already.

“I would like to thank the local people of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre for the enthusiasm shown since the launch of this huge and unprecedented vaccination programme.

“It is also testament to the incredible efforts of NHS staff and volunteers who have ensured the smooth running of 15 vaccination centres across the area and to those who have provided vaccinations to the housebound and those living in care homes.

“And the hard work continues as, in line with the Government’s target, we look to have invited every adult on the Fylde Coast for their initial vaccination by the end of July.”

COVID-19 vaccinations were first given on the Fylde Coast at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in early December. Soon after, the first GP practice vaccine clinics went live in Lytham and Blackpool.

In late January, the large vaccination centre at Blackpool Winter Gardens opened its doors. There are now nine GP-led sites in addition to the Winter Gardens and pharmacy-led sites at AFC Fylde in Wesham, Fleetwood Health and Wellbeing Centre, Moor Park Health Centre in Bispham and Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish Centre in St Annes.

Anyone aged 55 or older, anyone who is clinically vulnerable, and frontline health and social care staff can book a vaccine at one of these sites by calling 119 or visiting
