The Blackpool Winter Gardens mass vaccine site will close at the end of July to allow the venue to return to normal business.

Vaccinations will continue to be given to people across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre at the well established pharmacy and GP-led vaccine sites, as well as at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Jane Scattergood, director of nursing and quality for Fylde Coast CCGs, said: “We have been very fortunate to be able to use the Winter Gardens as a mass vaccination centre over the past few months, which is a precious and historic community venue and a momentous place of interest to both the people of the Fylde Coast and across the country.

“We are hugely grateful to the landlords Blackpool Council who have worked in close partnership with us in allowing us to use such a fantastic place to deliver mass vaccination provision to the Fylde Coast population.

“Now that lockdown rules are starting to ease we are seeing a slow return to more normal life, with the biggest reopening of society this year taking place from 17 May 2021. The Winter Gardens understandably wishes to begin thinking about and planning for returning to normal business.

“This means that we now need to shift our focus to the future sustainability of delivering vaccinations to the Fylde Coast population by different means, through hospital hubs, primary care networks, and community pharmacy provision. This means more vaccines being delivered at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, at GP practice-led sites and at pharmacy-led sites such as those at AFC Fylde, Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish Centre in St Annes, Moor Park Health and Wellbeing Centre and Fleetwood Health and Wellbeing Centre.

“The Winter Gardens is looking to reinstate normal business from the beginning of August 2021, meaning that we will need to stand down vaccination delivery at the site to enable restoration to the building’s former use by the end of July 2021.

“People eligible to receive the vaccine should continue to book their vaccination appointments via the national booking system either online or by calling 119.

“We are keen to retain our staff during this period as we continue to deliver the vaccine programme to eligible cohorts and as such, staff contracts will be extended to the middle of August 2021, this will also support an uninterrupted service to our community on the Fylde Coast as we close down the service at Blackpool Winter Gardens.”
