This May, people in Blackpool have an opportunity to learn from a leading expert about healthy living for strong bones and the bone condition osteoporosis.

The free information event, hosted by UK-wide charity the Royal Osteoporosis Society and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will be held from 14:00-16:00 at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s Medical Education Centre on Monday 13 May.

Open to all who have an interest in keeping their bones healthy, the event will particularly benefit those who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and would like more information.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones lose their strength and are more likely to break, usually following a minor bump or fall. It affects approximately three million people in the UK, with an estimated 500,000 fractures occurring because of the condition every year – one every minute. The Royal Osteoporosis Society is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the condition.

The event offers a unique opportunity to hear the latest news from the field of osteoporosis from local expert Dr Andrew Jeffries, Consultant Rheumatologist at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Jill Beaumont, Development Manager for the Royal Osteoporosis Society, says: “Looking after your bones is just as important as looking after your heart or mind, but far too many people don’t think about bone health. This friendly and informal event provides a great opportunity to learn more about bone health and osteoporosis, have questions answered and meet others in a similar situation.”

Spaces are limited at this free event. Please book your place by Tuesday 7 May by contacting Jill at jill.beaumont@theros.org.uk, or calling 07841422078.

Details: Monday 13 May, from 14:00-16:00.
